this better not be the typical lesbian movie formula where they aren't together in the end either by someone dying, a guy coming between them on one side or the other, parent/societal disapproval, or just a bad breakup. cause. that would be so lame. _________________ ..love without pain isn't really romance |

^The girls whose destinies the book and movie are based upon, they are in prison right now... That's all I'll say. Don't be so quick to dismiss it though. Personally I must admit that I'm a sucker for realistic drama (with happy or sad endings) and a sucker for movies that depict a time, a place and a culture. So I'm definitely looking forward to this. _________________ a.k.a. Sir Pish E. (*Mufflemuffle*) |

The script differs from the book, though. In a few interviews it's been said so, also that the ending was apparently changed, maybe to give it a happy ending?

City's Guest
[...] But Mischa Barton came to Russia's capital not only for clubbing, but with business purpose - to play in Roland Joffe's movie "Finding t.A.T.u." based on the novel by Alexey Mitrofanov "t.A.T.u. Come Back". By the way, one of the movies with Mischa Barton was released in Russia with a prophetic title "Not Gonna Get You". However the scandalous band is not the main character there. The movie is not about Yulia Volkova and Lena Katina, but about two absolutely different girls - Russian provincial girl Lana (played by Barton) and American girl Jenny (played by a young actress Chantal van Santen ). The girls accidentally meet in Moscow at t.A.T.u. gig, discover volcanic feelings for each other and find themselves in a gulf of dangerous experiences which are quite easy to find in present-day Moscow, as we all know.
Mischa is not particularly fascinated by duets' music, although she appreciates Yulia and Lena's world' fame. Moreover t.A.T.u. songs excellently reflect the life young people live today, the life described by Mischa as follows, "The young people are trying so hard to do something different than the old ways".

Finding t.A.T.u.
The most popular Russian band in the world tries cinema
Russian-American production company RAMKO finishes principal photography for the movie Finding t.A.T.u. starring Hollywood actress Mischa Barton, t.A.T.u. singers Julia Vokova and Lena Katina and many Russian celebrities including State Dume deputy Alexei Mitrofanov and MTV Russia VJ Alexander Anatolyevich.
The movie is based on erotic novel "t.A.T.u. Come Back" by the deputy and a "big friend of t.A.T.u." Alexey Mitrofanov. The story is about love and adventures of two girls - t.A.T.u. fans. One of them is played by Mischa Barton.
t.A.T.u. producer is played by Alexander Anatolyevich. t.A.T.u. camp insists, however, not to look for parallels between the character of Anatolyevich and the first t.A.T.u. band producer Ivan Shapovalov.
Other Russian actors involved in the movie are Alika Smehova, Alexander Semchev and many others.
Producers are planning to release the movie not just in Russia, but internationally. It maybe the reason why British director Roland Joffe, known for "Vatel" starring Uma Thurman and "Scarlett Letter", is involved. Producer from American side is Steve Nemeth, whose portfolio includes cult movie "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas".
Russian producer and RAMKO founder Sergei Konov, who was the one to initiate the project, said he wanted to make a movie "for the young generation", similar to Lindsey Anderson's film "Oh, Lucky Man!" The release of the movie is planned in 2008.

Best. Lesbian. Week. Ever. (October 19, 2007)
by scribegrrrl, Sr. Editor
October 19, 2007
LESBIAN QUOTE OF THE WEEK NO. 1
"I get these girls who never thought they would even like girls into liking me, and it's a total con."
— Tegan Quin in the Spring/Summer 2007 issue of Hobo magazine, on why the new Tegan and Sara album is called The Con
WELL, I GUESS "MISCHA" IS A RUSSIAN NAME
Back in February, Sarah told you about the movie Finding t.A.T.u., coming sometime in 2008. Did you think it was all a weird dream you had after falling asleep with your iPod on shuffle? Nope, it's really happening, and Mischa Barton and Shantel VanSanten might live to regret it. They play teenagers who meet at a t.A.T.u. concert and fall in love. And the real t.A.T.u. girls, Yulia Volkova and Lena Katina, play themselves in the film. It's so meta. Or is that m.E.T.a.? Maybe I mean f.A.K.e.
Yulia and Lena recently shared some set photos with the Russian magazine Yes! — hey, Russia, what's with the excess punctuation in magazine titles and band names? There are no spoilers here, but I do feel compelled to give you an animal carcass warning. Ick. (Photos and translations via the Finding t.A.T.u. blog.)
Yulia: We ... didn't need instructions: We leave our shows like that every time. We filmed this scene in just couple of takes.
Lena: Here's Mischa Barton ... filming [her] last scenes at the meat factory in Yaroslavl. Here she kind of returns to [the] life she wanted to escape ... I'd probably feel sick in such disgusting, smelly surroundings. But Mischa rocks — she did it!
It's mind-boggling to think of Barton, that petulant princess of The O.C., playing a provincial Russian "meat factory" worker. Dorothy Snarker said it best: Get ready for acting and accents that remind you of Natasha from Bullwinkle. It's moose and squirrel! No, it's a couple of gay-for-pay pop tarts!
The t.A.T.u. blog also posted a "preview" clip this week. This makes the movie seem even more like a weird (and bad) dream, and one desperately in need of an editor:
[dailymotion video; visit the afterellen page to see the video:
http://www.afterellen.com/blwe/10-19-2007?page=0%2C2]
Can someone help me? I've fallen into a Dance Dance Revolution background video and can't get up.
If all that weren't enough to whet your appetite, the movie is based on the book t.A.T.u. Come Back, which is itself based on the true story of two t.A.T.u. fans who are currently serving time for murdering the mother who kept them apart. Wait: I think I've seen this movie, only it was set in New Zealand and starred Melanie Lynskey and Kate Winslet.
Actually, although I can certainly understand why one might run in horror from the preview clip, I think I might like Finding t.A.T.u. It could turn out to be a mashup of Heavenly Creatures, Jem and the Holograms and that gross meat truck scene in The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover. What's not to love? |

Anton Yelchin plays Edvard Nikitin in "Finding t.A.T.u.", some info about him on IMDb: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0947338/
From Elle Girl (Russia), October 2007 (Translation):
Quote: |
Anton Yelchin
Flyaway curls, "absent" smile, hazy look in the eyes - an 18-year-old Yelchin resembles a dreamy hobbit rather than an average St. Petersburg guy. Actually, Anton was born in Piter and left it for America because of his parents - figure skaters - who were looking for a better place to live. His mother and his father wanted their son to follow their steps, but Anton traded his skates for acting classes without hesitation. At 11 he played one of the two main characters in the movie "Hearts in Atlantis" (second lead role was given to Sir Anthony Hopkins), and at 16 he was in the cast of much-talked-of criminal drama "Alpha Dog" together with Justin Timberlake, Bruce Willis and Sharon Stone. An upcoming movie starring Yelchin - "Charlie Bartlett" - is out in October. He plays a guy from a rich family who tries to get integrated in his new school and in the end becomes kind of a shrink for his classmates. By the way, this is Anton's first comedy character - how did he do it without his branded wistful and sad look in the eyes?

That's one of the best posts I've seen here in a long time. Considering the crazy hairstyles she's put herself through, the beard rumor seems plausible. _________________ Get your vienna sausages away from my pencil!!! |

Lena Katina and Yulia Volkova finished the dubbing (also called automated dialog replacement or ADR) of the movie with a working title “Finding t.A.T.u.”. The dubbing took place at Mosfilm studio. Supervising sound editor Barney Cabral, a professional with more than 30 years of experience, together with movie’s producer Sergey Konov managed the process. Their aim was to record the synchronous sound that would match the video in emotions. In spite of the fact that the last time Yulia did dubbing was back at “Eralash” times, and Lena did it for the first time in her life, the girls recorded their lines in less than an hour. |

ADR in less than an hour wow that is quick. ADR is so anoying it is better to try for the best sound while on set but sometimes there are unfixable problems when recording sound (Like traffic and airplanes and stuff).... Anyway that far into the editing process we should see this movie soon so cool _________________

Crew commentarys are too fun. The crew knows more about things that happened on the set more than the actors do. They just sit in their trailers until they are needed and then get sent back. I'd love to hear a comentary of a Set PA now that would be awsome... And plus they know EVERYTHING that happens, we could get juicy storys from them _________________
