Nothing of this has been officially confirmed, but it's been said that the movie will be filmed in February in the US - it would coincide with the recording of t.A.T.u.'s third album there - so if I could venture a guess, I'd say, probably in L.A.?!

Here's more info on the (alleged) director, Roland Joffe:

Thanks for the link, xena225.
I think the name of the director comes from a cast iron source.

I’ve seen heavy criticism of Roland Joffé on another forum, based on the fact he directed Super Mario Bros. (1993). He was not the only director involved with that film, so I think it can give little indication of his style. See here:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108255/fullcredits#directors

It’s a funny thing, but the Country for his recent film Captivity (2006) is given as: USA / Russia. See here:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0374563/

I think this tatu film will be good.

Thanks, RowerB. It's funny how some single out Super Mario Bros. as an example of his work (which he is uncredited for when I look at the IMDB link you posted), when he has made fantastic movies like The Killing Fields (3 Oscars!), Goodbye Lover and The Scarlet Letter, for example. Didn't know he was British by the way. Can't wait to see what this collaboration will bring about. :)

I cringe when I hear the words “The Killing Fields”. That’s the name the Health and Safety Executive gave to a video nasty about the misuse of agricultural machinery in the UK.

Just for fun I checked 'Mosfilm Studios' for what's going on there. In the pre-productions list I found a movie with the working-title «????: ??????? ??????» (TaTu: Angel's Kiss), the production company is the very same RAMCO, which I mentioned in my last post. Quite curious, whether it may be the tatu-movie.

Thank you argos tatu.ru for info

That's interesting, thanks for that, argos and Sakuya!

In reply to a comment I made about Alexei Mitrofanov's book being liked by a lot of Russian forumers on Tatu.ru, argos added the following:

Quote:
Reading the online part of the book and some reviews I think, there is more than only the obvious scenes. It seems to be about a generation in which modern technology (Internat, cell-phones, mass media, show business...) dominates the life, where young people lose contact to reality, to their tradition. Blind from the promises of a new life of joy and adventure their lives are finally destroyed, because they couldn't see the consequences of their acting.

In good hands the theme can certainly make a superb movie and somehow I have the feeling, that tatu will not regret participating in this film.

That does sound quite promising, and in the hands of an experienced, intellectual director - which I consider Roland Joffe to be - this could turn out well. :)

There's this pic on the Tatu.ru main page now:

Hopefully this means we'll get an official update about the book/movie situation soon. :)

I was searching through the net and I found this pic. I don't know if you guys have seen it before.

I don't know what it says, since I can't speak Russian, but I know that it's about the new t.A.T.u. Movie.

I think it's the book the movie is based on.

Translation would be apreciated. Grin

Oh God let's hope not. As much as that would rock for you, I'd really like them to remain authentic and not try to be the Nth Americanised euro-pop act. In fact, they've Americanised too much already imho. If anything, they should be using their star power to help some Russian producer who is way talented but unknown in the west get some time in the spotlight.

The gravity point of their fan base lies in (Eastern) Europe and Asia anyway, so.... Tongue

You make a very point Sunrider.

However, by doing that they take a huge risk. An unknown director might lack the experience, and North American directors have more experience than most Russian directors.
Then again, if the director is Russian, then they'll understand more about t.A.T.u. than an American director.

I really don't care who directs it, as long as they do a good job.

Don't know if you've seen this, but during a recent press conference Lena and Yulia mentioned Roland Joffé as the director. He is British and quite an accomplished director in my opinion. This was already discussed a few posts above, just have a look. :)

There is a posibility that the movie might be in English. The movie is being filmed in L.A. and is being directed (or so I've read) by an English director. The company that's producing is a Russian-American company. I wouldn't be surprised if the actors were American.

Why not in both Russian and English? After all, that is how Tatu's life is. Besides, there is such a thing like subtitles. Smile

It could be in both languages, but I hope it’s just in English or at least, mainly in English. I am a very slow reader and I'd miss half what’s said with subtitles.

That would be quite interesting, if they did have some Russian in it. Wouldn't bother me one bit, but I can see how some people would struggle with the subtitles. Either way, it's tATU, in a movie!!!

Hmmm... that does go with their Ljudi Invalidy theme quite a bit, but to me it sounds an awful lot like Fahrenheit 451 (my most fave book ever I LOVE BRADBURY!!!!!!!). I certainly hope it's better than the movie version of F451 they made back in the 60's. Damn those writers! It was nothing like the wonderful book! The whole thing was a piece of SHI- I mean CRAP!

I have to buy that novel. Normally I don't read books, but for t.A.T.u. I'll make an exception. :D

I'm getting my hopes really high for this movie. I hope it happens. I have my fingers crossed.

Thanks for the info, Sakuya and argos! Thumb Smile

So... Roland Joffe is confirmed as the director then? And apparently the (tentative) title of the movie is "In search of TaTu".
